ScreenTap vs Phone Harness

Phone Harness is an open-source (MIT) phone harness for AI agents, with a hosted service: Android emulators billed by the minute, real cloud iPhones by the month, and an option to drive your own iPhone through iPhone Mirroring.

The short answer

Both let agents use iPhones over MCP. Phone Harness leans on cloud phones and drives your own iPhone through macOS iPhone Mirroring. ScreenTap is built only for your own iPhone, over USB and Bluetooth, and runs entirely on your Mac with no cloud.

Where they differ

How your iPhone is driven

Phone Harness uses Apple's iPhone Mirroring to control your own iPhone. ScreenTap streams the screen over USB and taps as a Bluetooth pointer and keyboard, so it doesn't depend on iPhone Mirroring and works where Apple doesn't offer it, like the EU.

Cloud vs local

Phone Harness is built around hosted phones. ScreenTap has no cloud at all: everything runs on your Mac and the MCP server only listens on 127.0.0.1.

Open source

Phone Harness's harness is MIT-licensed, which suits teams that want to self-host or modify it. ScreenTap is a finished Mac app with a free trial.

Choose ScreenTap if

  • ✓You want to automate your own iPhone without relying on iPhone Mirroring, including in the EU.
  • ✓You want nothing in the cloud: the screen and your data stay on your Mac.
  • ✓You want a polished Mac app that sets up in two minutes.

Choose Phone Harness if

  • ✓You want open-source code you can self-host or change.
  • ✓You need cloud phones, Android emulators, or an iPhone with its own eSIM number.
  • ✓You prefer per-minute billing for short Android runs.

Questions

Is ScreenTap a Phone Harness alternative?+

For controlling your own iPhone, yes. Both connect to agents over MCP. ScreenTap uses USB and Bluetooth instead of iPhone Mirroring, and doesn't offer cloud phones or Android.

Does ScreenTap need iPhone Mirroring?+

No. ScreenTap gets the screen over the USB cable and taps over Bluetooth, so it works without iPhone Mirroring and in regions where Apple doesn't offer it.

Which is cheaper?+

For your own iPhone, ScreenTap is $19 a month or $99 once at launch. A Phone Harness cloud iPhone is $80 a month; their Android emulators are 5¢ a minute.
