Comparison · 2026

The best iPhone MCP server for AI agents.

There are a few ways to let Claude Code, Codex or Cursor control an iPhone over MCP. They solve different problems. Here's how they compare, and which to pick.

The short answer

To have an agent use your real iPhone, with any App Store app and your own accounts, and with nothing installed on the phone and no Xcode, use ScreenTap. To test your own app quickly in CI, a Simulator MCP server or a framework like XCUITest is the better tool.

Categories, not specific products: tools within each group differ. “Partly” means it depends on the tool or the app.

The four approaches

ScreenTap: your real iPhone

Your iPhone's screen streams to your Mac over USB, and taps and typing go over Bluetooth, the way a keyboard and mouse would. Any app works, logged into your accounts, and nothing is installed on the phone. The trade-off: each action takes a few seconds.

Simulator MCP servers

They drive the iOS Simulator that comes with Xcode. Fast and easy to reset, which is great for testing your own app, but there's no App Store, no iMessage, and many apps can't run there.

Real-device test frameworks

XCUITest and WebDriverAgent-based tools control a real iPhone from the inside. They're fast and precise, but need Xcode, code signing and a test runner installed on the phone, and they're built for testing apps rather than everyday use.

Cloud device farms

Remote iPhones you rent by the minute. Good for covering many models and iOS versions, but they're not your phone or your accounts, and your app data goes through someone else's servers.

Which should you pick?

  • Pick ScreenTap if… you want your agent to do real things on your own iPhone, in any app, logged into your accounts, with nothing to install on the phone and no Xcode.
  • Pick a Simulator MCP if… you're developing your own app and want fast, disposable test runs on the iOS Simulator.
  • Pick a test framework if… you need fast, scripted UI tests of your own app in CI and are fine with Xcode and signing.
  • Pick a device farm if… you need to test across many iPhone models and iOS versions you don't own.

Questions

What is an iPhone MCP server?+

An MCP server exposes tools to an AI agent over the Model Context Protocol. An iPhone MCP server gives the agent tools like screenshot, tap, swipe and type, so agents such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can operate an iPhone or the iOS Simulator.

What's the best MCP server for controlling a real iPhone?+

If you want your agent to use your own iPhone, with any App Store app and your own accounts, and without Xcode or anything installed on the phone, ScreenTap is built for exactly that. If you're testing your own app in CI, a Simulator-based MCP server or a test framework like XCUITest is usually a better fit.

Can Claude Code control an iPhone?+

Yes. Connect Claude Code to an iPhone MCP server and it can take screenshots, tap, type and open apps. With ScreenTap it's one command: claude mcp add --transport http --scope user screentap http://127.0.0.1:47811/mcp

Does ScreenTap work with the iOS Simulator or Android?+

No. ScreenTap drives a real iPhone connected to your Mac. For the Simulator, use a Simulator MCP server; for Android, use an Android-specific tool.

Why is ScreenTap slower per tap than test frameworks?+

Test frameworks drive an app from the inside, which is fast but needs Xcode, signing and a helper installed on the phone. ScreenTap acts like a person: it reads the screen and taps through a Bluetooth pointer, so it works with any app with nothing installed, at the cost of a few seconds per action.

Is it private?+

ScreenTap runs on your Mac, has no cloud and no account, and its MCP server only listens on 127.0.0.1. Screenshots go only to the agent you connect.
