Set up

Claude Code

Anthropic's coding agent in your terminal. One command and it's connected in every project.

  1. 1

    Open ScreenTap

    The MCP server runs while the ScreenTap app is open and your iPhone is set up.

  2. 2

    Add ScreenTap to Claude Code

    Run this once in your terminal. --scope user makes ScreenTap available in every project. Leave it out to add it to the current project only.

    Terminal
    claude mcp add --transport http --scope user screentap http://127.0.0.1:47811/mcp
  3. 3

    Check it's connected

    screentap should be listed as connected.

    Terminal
    claude mcp list
  4. 4

    Try it

    Start a new Claude Code session (existing sessions don't pick up new servers) and ask:

    Prompt
    Take a screenshot of my iPhone and tell me what's on screen.

Full guide with troubleshooting: Claude Code in the docs.

Set up

Claude Desktop

The Claude app for Mac. Add ScreenTap to its config file and restart.

  1. 1

    Open the config file

    In Claude Desktop, open Settings › Developer › Edit Config. This opens claude_desktop_config.json in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/.

  2. 2

    Add ScreenTap

    Paste this in. If the file already has an mcpServers section, add only the "screentap" entry inside it.

    claude_desktop_config.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "screentap": {
          "command": "/Applications/ScreenTap.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenTap",
          "args": ["--stdio"]
        }
      }
    }
  3. 3

    Restart Claude Desktop

    Quit it completely with ⌘Q (closing the window isn't enough), then open it again.

  4. 4

    Check it's connected

    Open the tools menu in a new chat. ScreenTap and its tools should be listed. Then try:

    Prompt
    Take a screenshot of my iPhone and tell me what's on screen.

Good to know

  • Claude on the web (claude.ai) and the mobile apps can't reach ScreenTap: its MCP server only runs on your Mac. Use Claude Code or Claude Desktop.
  • Claude reads the screen from screenshots, so it works with any app, including ones with no API.
